{"id":810,"date":"2008-02-23T15:33:00","date_gmt":"2008-02-23T19:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.cmhughesmd.com\/?p=810"},"modified":"2008-02-23T15:33:00","modified_gmt":"2008-02-23T19:33:00","slug":"health-net-ordered-to-pay-9-million-after-canceling-cancer-patients-policy-los-angeles-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.cmhughesmd.com\/?p=810","title":{"rendered":"Health Net ordered to pay $9 million after canceling cancer patient&#8217;s policy &#8211; Los Angeles Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/local\/la-fi-insure23feb23,0,187355.story\">Health Net ordered to pay $9 million after canceling cancer patient&#8217;s policy &#8211; Los Angeles Times<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Calling Woodland Hills-based Health Net&#8217;s actions &#8216;egregious,&#8217; Judge Sam Cianchetti, a retired Los Angeles County Superior Court judge, ruled that the company broke state laws and acted in bad faith.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Health Net was primarily concerned with and considered its own financial interests and gave little, if any, consideration and concern for the interests of the insured,&#8217; Cianchetti wrote in a 21-page ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Patsy Bates, a 52-year-old grandmother, was at work at the Gardena hair salon she owns when her lawyer William Shernoff called with the news.
